Day 218…

10.22.12

Good morning Monday!  Happy to have my pup back and ready to tackle the day after yet another interesting night of sleep (still having weird dreams), but feeling good otherwise.  The body is a bit tired from paintball and my 5 mile run, but the mind feels sharp…to work I go!

As with most Mondays it is a busy one.  The to-do list is lengthy and I’m diving right into work this morning.  It has been head-down all morning and before I know it half the day is gone.  I’ve been literally non-stop since I got to the office with various emails, proposals and such…everyone in the office is starving and wondering what happened with our lunch order….1230…1…130…2…yes, food finally arrives!  There was a glitch in the order so it got here super late.  The only good that comes out of this is that I got even more work done before taking a break for lunch…

Back at things and trying to be as productive as possible as I’m leaving a little early today with a co-worker (Monica) to take a trapeze class.  This is not something that I thought I would ever do, but it has always looked like fun from afar and she goes often, so hey, why not give it a try….finishing up here and then off Monica and I go to Chelsea Piers for our class…

The class is literally on top of Chelsea Piers (the top of pier 40)…they have set up the rig to have an unobstructed view of downtown and let me tell you – it’s gorgeous…after going through the obligatory safety lesson, I get harnessed-up, watch a few non-first timers (including Monica who is doing all these cool tricks) and then I climb the ladder for my first flight…While I don’t have the biggest aversion to heights, there is a quick moment of feeling uneasy when you get your first hand on the trapeze bar.  It is heavier than you expect it to be and gravity wants to pull you and the bar off of the ledge that you are on.  I quickly get over that, put my other hand on the bar and off I go…

Time to fly!

It’s such a cool feeling to be flying through the air, holding onto the bar and swinging back and forth.  They ask me to try and put my legs on the bar and then hang from them…it is easier than I expect it to be and so much fun to hang upside down ..we then work on doing a backflip when letting go of the bar…once all that is perfected  it is time to try and get caught by someone swinging on the opposite end of the rig…this, when I think about it, seems like it could be tough to do, but to my surprise I manage to get caught both times I try it…overall, I couldn’t recommend this more to people looking for two hours of fun and in a way that is different than usual…I will definitely be back come spring when they reopen, or maybe I’ll just join the circus :)

Class ends and we hit the subway to head home…I grab dinner on my way to my apartment, take Riley out, shower and then sit down to eat…while eating I find myself debating whether I should watch the debate or not…I fold and turn it on only to immediately regret it.  Just as frustrating as the last one, so I turn it off and head to bed…

It has been a busy last three days and I need to be up early tomorrow for my first session with my new trainer as I try to build my body back together…

Night all…

Day 217…

10.21.12

Oh Sunday, as I tend to say every-time you come around, why do you show up far too early in the weekend?  So it is…up after not the best night of sleep, but forcing myself to motivate and get ready to meet Andre and Rene for a run…I’m a bit sore from paintball, but feeling good about going for a run…

It is another gorgeous day and we start off on what we plan to be a loop of the park.  I haven’t done the lower loop since February, so I’m really excited to knock this out and then move to the upper loop next week.  Andre and Rene tell me to set the pace, so we head out and run a solid, but not terribly fast first mile.  I think it is a matter of getting loose and we are all doing so on mile 1.  The pace quickens a bit and we start to feel really good…moving along the loop and we literally run into a mass of what has to be 20,000 – 30,000 people doing a breast cancer walk for the ACS in the park…this should be an interesting last half of the run as they are literally taking up almost the entire road…we push through and finish the run rather strong.  Total for the day is just over 5miles at a sub 9 pace so I feel really encouraged that my base is starting to build quickly and that I will indeed be ready to run a 15k in December at a 830 or less pace (which I think will be something to be proud of considering the lack my normal type of running for 6+ months)…

Back home, showering and eating before the crew arrives at my place for the Giants game…everyone arrives – Terence, Andre, Meg, Linds, Blitz, Alex, Rachel, Rene and Jared so it’s a packed house…eating all the oh-so-good and oh-so-unhealthy Sunday football foods and watching a really tight Giants game…looks like we are going to lose…but wait…Eli drops back…throws a bomb to Cruz…Cruz catches it…77 yards later…TD!!!!!….Giants pull of yet another comeback win!!!!!

Friends are heading out and I wait for my Mom, Dad and my pup to get to my house…Riley was in NJ getting groomed so I haven’t seen her in a few days and I can’t wait to have her back home…just one little hiccup for her – she bascially got sheered at the groomer b/c I was bad and didn’t brush her hair so it was so matted that they had no choice but to sheer it….holy sh*t, she is so skinny…she looks funny with her big head and super skinny body, but she is still herself, so I can’t really complain…

Off to dinner to celebrate Pop’s bday…unfortunately, Jordan has a touch of the flu so she couldn’t come to dinner :(  Food is fantastic – I have oysters finally and then the most amazing lamb chops…I’m starting to get really tired from all of the weekend activities so it is straight home after dinner…walking Ri and then to bed and Homeland…

Night all…

Day 216…

10.20.12

Woke up later than I thought I would as I finally got a decent night of sleep.  I now have to rush to get ready as I have a bunch of friends meeting me at my apartment at 945 this morning so we can then drive out to LI for paintball.  There is going to be a large group of us (18 total) and the weather is more than cooperating, so we are all really excited for what should be a really fun day…

Arriving at the location for the day and there is a lot of excitement in the air.  Paintball, for those that haven’t had the opportunity to play can be endless fun (with a bit of pain if/when you get hit).  The key to a great day is having a group large enough that you are only playing against people you know as opposed to being put against strangers who may not abide by the unspoken rules of the game and who may also be awesome/scary good, so alas, we ensure we have our own group to shoot…

We pick teams and to the fields we go…first round starts of really well for my team as we seem to pick off our friends rather quickly…this continues for the next 3 rounds…we then decide to mix it up a bit and the game changes quickly (my team plays down a man and we get rocked pretty quick)…I take a shot off the arm and am reminded of the pain the paintball can inflict…we take a quick break and then head back out for more fun…

As a side note, this is the first real activity that I’ve done aside from running since given the ‘all clear’ and I’m happy to say that I’m holding up really well.  My cardio and overall strength seems to be there so I’m not struggling to keep up, nor am I any more tired than the rest of my friends.  This only gives me more confidence to finish up the day strong…we play a few more rounds and call it quits after the 10th or 11th round – no more shooting each other.  We all have a bunch of welts (I have 3 pretty gnarly ones on my stomach, back and arm) from getting hit and want to make our way back to the city so we can shower up and then head out for the night…

Traffic on the way back isn’t great – there is an awful accident on the LIE that is creating a ton of congestion (and on top of that, only one of the tunnels leading back to the city is open b/c of construction) so we decide to find a new route home…we weave our way through Queens and then the Bronx and finally make our way back to Manhattan…

I have a snack, shower up and then head down to Terence and Meg’s for dinner and drinks – or as Meg calls it ‘fall festivus’…so much fun with all my friends…while we had some intentions to go out, we realize that we are having a lot of fun at the house, so we just decide to hang there, drink and laugh…

It is getting late and we are all pretty tired from the activities of the day, so I head home to get some sleep before a hopeful run tomorrow…

Night all…

Day 215…

10.19.12

Friday has finally arrived and I couldn’t be happier.  It has been a long, yet fun week and the weekend is going to be just as packed, so I’m looking forward to getting through the day and hopefully having a chill Friday night before the fun of the weekend begins on Saturday…I’m definitely tired today as the event last night was a lot of fun, but home a bit on the late side, so I drag myself out of bed and head into the office…

It is of course busy, but Friday always has the vibe of a day that everyone looks forward to if for no other reason than that the weekend will be greeting everyone at the end of the day…kicking off a new client this morning (with an old friend) and then straight to more work to see how much we can knock out and lessen the burden for next week…meetings, calls and emails, lunch and then repeat…

Afternoon is moving along nicely and I’m working out plans for tonight.  The plan as of now is to go and see Argo with a few friends as everyone has said how great it is and I really want to see it…before that can happen I am off to my apartment to relax, do some laundry and eat dinner…looks like the only person that can join for Argo is Rene as Andre/Linds/Blitz all have some things that they need to do and can’t make the time we are going…

Movie was fantastic.  I have to say, this movie did a really wonderful job of recreating the tension between the countries (US/Iran/Canada/etc.) and how trying and dangerous it was to make a daring rescue of the hostages.  I digress and won’t write a movie review as that just isn’t my speciality.  I will just encourage everyone to go and see this movie…

Home, heading to bed as I’m up early tomorrow for….PAINTBALL!!!

Night all…

Day 214…

10.18.12

First things first as I start the post for today – HAPPY BDAY POPS!!!!

Up and ready for a great day.  It’s nice out and I’m heading to the office to do my part to own the day as best I can.  Picking up a cup of coffee from the MUD truck and then sitting down to get work done.  It is going to be a bit of a crunch as Mindy and I are leaving a bit on the early side to head to a fundraiser/event tonight which should be lots of fun, and if nothing else, very entertaining…

Very busy morning thus far with back-to-back-to-back meetings and the next thing I know, it’s time for lunch (no complaints there)…lunch is over and it’s back to more meetings.  The good news is that each of the meetings today definitely accomplishes something, whereas not all of them do, so I’m happy with what is getting done…hopping on a client call to wrap up the day before heading out to the event…

We are going to start the night with a quick bite to eat before the event starts so that we don’t have to worry about being hungry – especially with the anticipated free-flow of alcohol…we meet up with Mindy’s boyfriend David, his sister and a few of her friends, have a beer, some food and watch the final demise of my beloved Yankees.  I never, ever want them to lose, but with the way they’ve been playing, I want to be put of my misery of watching them…

The event tonight is for the 13th anniversary of Birthright and the theme is a Bar Mitzvah (obviously).  So once we get past the hilarity and awkwardness of the recreation of our past, it has all the designs of being a fun night…we are having a few drinks and the party and the group of friends grows.  So far – good times…I run into an old friend that I haven’t seen in ages (my friend Josh) and we catch up and laugh at our past…night wears on and the party begins to come to a close…we gather ourselves and head out and to our respective homes…

Home and tired…

Night all…

Day 213…

10.17.12

Mid-week and still struggling a bit with sleep but up and ready for the work day.  It is going to be another busy one as we have a lot going on and the calendar looks pretty full…to work I go…

Diving right into the day and being productive right off the bat.  Kicking-off a few new projects and just cranking on others.  At times throughout the day it seems for every piece accomplished two more are added to the list.  As I’ve always said, better to be busy than to not be busy… breaking for lunch and eating what seems to be a 900lb burrito.  It’s massive and unlikely to be finished…the sheer absurdity of everyone’s lunch today brings up a fun subject – what would you want to eat in an eating contest.  We have some standard answers of pizza, doughnuts, ice cream and my answer (which I didn’t think was random but many others did – rice pilaf).  Lots of laughs around the table and we are feeling energized for the rest of the afternoon.  Something tells me this won’t be the last of the eating contest discussion…

Afternoon is moving rather quickly and I’m wrapping things up for the day before heading out to meet up with some friends for hibachi night.  Terence has completed a hibachi class and is cooking us dinner at Benihana.  This will without question be hilarious…just as I expected it is awesome.  We are laughing so much that my stomach hurts and it is just a really good way to end a very busy work day…

Saying my goodbyes and heading home to walk the pup and then to bed I go…

Night all…

Day 212…

10.16.12

It’s Tuesday and I’m waking up after another interesting night of sleep.  Since I have totally stopped taking the Ativan, I have had some deep hours of sleep, but my dreams continue to be weird/odd and I am still waking up rather often.  I have said for weeks now that I think I need new pillows, and I am promising myself that I will get them this weekend as that may be contributing to my lack of sleep…anyway, I have to drive to work today as I have a meeting in NJ, so it is back to the old routine of dealing with the morning NYC traffic.  Should be fun!…

To work I go…traffic doesn’t disappoint as it is pretty bad down Park today…is what it is…I make it to the office in about 30min, which is pretty standard for a morning commute, though I can say that I really do prefer the subway over driving to the office…we are welcoming a new team member to the office today, so we are sitting with him this morning and helping him get acquainted to everything Next Street…I’m getting a few emails out before heading to my meeting in NJ…

Off to the motherland I go…got to my meeting with little, to no traffic, and am early but my phone rang as I was pulling into the parking lot so I’m talking to Nisha as she has been so nice to checkin on me and see if I’m sleeping any better…we have a good conversation and I feel like I know I can beat this thing…

My meeting with my client goes very well, we work through lunch and I have a handful of to-dos coming out of it, but all good things.  Heading back to the office (with a stop for gas as my car is practically at empty)…back at work, sitting down to meetings and emails, but being productive as always…

Day is ending and I’m heading home to a date with my couch for the Yankees and the debate (I’m going to see how long I can last watching it as I don’t find them to be very informative, let alone productive, but it should be good theater tonight)…to no ones surprise, the debate is explosive.  Tons of nasty words thrown at each other and it is rather frustrating to watch as neither candidate manages to actually answer the questions that are posed to them.  Thankfully I keep up with the issues in my own time and can make an informed decision…watching the end of the Yanks game and it is sadly the same result as the last two games – a loss.  Seems like it will be “wait till next year” for us…

Heading to bed…

Night all…

Day 211…

10.15.12

Good morning Monday, so nice to see you again.  While still tired from the previous week, I’m awake and ready to tackle the week, so out of bed I go and I begin my daily routine of walking the pup, showering and heading to the office.  I know it is going to be a busy week, so I head straight in without getting a coffee – sure hope that doesn’t come back to haunt me…

Already today has the look of being a busy one.  There is a ton to get done and I’m doing my best to make sure I get to as much as I can…two things seem to be pushing their way to the center of my attention today thus far 1. I’m starving, just starving 2. I have a pretty wicked headache that doesn’t want to go anywhere and I wonder if the lack of sleep and weather have anything to do with it… My hope is that lunch an advil and a coffee solve both of those problems…time will tell…

Refocusing on my work and forcing my way through the rest of the day.  It will be a struggle, but I know that I’m persevere as I always do…headache is slowly going away and I’m finding that the afternoon is pretty productive…

Heading home…it’s pouring out and the subway is a total mess.  There apparently was an incident on the F train and it took me 30min to go one stop so I’m switching trains in the hopes it gets me home faster…sadly that move only got me home a little quicker than the F was moving.  So much for train trials…back to the 6 I go this week…

Home, eating, walking the pup, etc.  Danielle stopped by to say hi, so good to catch up with her as I haven’t seen her since the summer.  She leaves and I sit down to watch Dexter from last night as I got home too late to watch it on Sunday…great episode.  Loving the season thus far…

Tired.  Time for bed…

Night all…

Day 210…

10.14.12

I am exhausted! Was up late last night and when you couple that with running and having a full day, I just am wiped out from all of yesterdays activities.  So be it.  I’ll survive as I always do…Having some breakfast and relaxing.  I think I deserve a lazy morning…

It’s much warmer today than yesterday so I plan to take Riley for a long walk and enjoy the outdoors a bit before my family comes in this afternoon (my Aunt is in town visiting so I’m excited to see her) and then we will head to dinner…taking a quick shower and then off Riley and I go on our walk…

Really nice to be out and about to clear the mind and get some exercise.  Riley and I go for about a mile and a half walk.  We meet some new dogs for her to make friends with and weave our way back home…I’m having some lunch and then catching up on a few work emails before firmly planting myself on my couch for football and DVR…

My Mom, Dad and Aunt make their way to my apartment and we are hanging around, catching up, having some laughs and watching the Yanks game (and of course since my Aunt is from Michigan, she’s rooting for the Tigers so we have conflicting camps for the game)…game is moving along, but of course the Yanks can’t come close to scoring any runs – it’s so frustrating pulling for them right now.  So it is (at least I can take solace in the Giants dominating again)…

To dinner we go…Jordan meets us at the restaurant and we have a really nice meal…I am fading pretty quickly so I tell myself that once I get home and walk Riley I’m heading straight to bed…

Night all…

Day 209…

10.13.12

Ah Saturday, how I love your arrival each week.  Waking up after a somewhat decent night of sleep, walking the pup and having some breakfast before meeting up with Andre for a run.  It’s cool out today and very sunny, so all that adds up to a great day for a run.  I’m not really sure how far we will go, but I’m hoping and aiming for a solid 4 miles…

Run is gorgeous and I manage to feel pretty good throughout and we do go the 4 I was hoping for.  We don’t stop for any breaks which is a good sign to me that I’m not only getting my legs back, but also that my cardio is improving and that my lungs are responding well.  It gives me confidence that I will be up to a solid base of 10 by year end and that the base will also be somewhat quick…

Back home and cooling down.  Going to give Riley a bath and then get myself ready for the rest of the day.  We are trying to decide what to do for the day – do we go to Coney Island and explore there, or do we go to Williamsburg and hang there?  Seems like we are leaning towards Williamsburg as it is a much closer subway ride and the afternoon is starting to slip away.  To Andre and Lindsay’s I go before we head to the train to meet up with Blitz…

Trying a place for brunch/lunch that Andre’s friend recommended to us.  It’s fantastic  mix of home/Southern cooking and that’s just what we need after our respective runs/workouts.  From there we walk a bit and meet up with another friend (Noam), his wife and their brand new rescue pup.  Hanging at their place and then they take us on a mini-tour of the neighborhood as we aren’t too familiar with it.  I have to say, it is really nice, especially down by the pier/water and overall just a fun place to visit/hang.  We are already making plans to go back for dinner and drinks in the near future…

Home for a bit to hang with Riley before meeting up with Aaron and James (my college roommate) for the Yanks game…we start at a bar and then decide to just watch the game at James’s apartment…good to hang with them and have a couple of beers…unfortunately the Yanks manage to fall behind 4-0 only to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th, go to extra innings, give up a run and then lose Jeter to a broken ankle.  Kinda feels like that is the end of the season as he is our heart and soul.  Time will tell, but it sucks :(

Heading home for some sleep as it is yet again past 1am…

Night all…
